Emyli Peralta

Hey, my name is Emyli, and I am a senior Biomedical Sciences and Health Sciences major at UCF. I am an aspiring dentist and have been working as a dental assistant for three years now. I love the field of dentistry and enjoy learning new procedures every time I go into the office. I also work as a teaching assistant for the Human Physiology lab and Medical Biochemistry at UCF, which is an incredibly rewarding experience.

I attended Osceola County School for the Arts for high school, which unfortunately did not provide me with many experiences in the STEM field. I was excited when I got to UCF and had a ton of opportunities to expand my involvement in STEM. My favorite classes at UCF have been Human Physiology and Medical Biochemistry, of course! My favorite professor at UCF has been Dr. Borgon because, although his classes are tough, he provides you with all the resources you need to succeed in the classes, and your success in his class directly reflects the effort put into them.

I decided to get involved with the STEM Ambassador program because growing up I was not exposed to a lot of STEM careers and opportunities in the field as I was not fortunate enough to participate in extracurricular activities during breaks. When I was 4 years old, I moved to the U.S. from the Dominican Republic, and my parents did not speak English and therefore just worked basic jobs to get us ahead in the country. I want to inspire future STEM students and give them hope by showing them that no matter where you come from, you can have big and attainable dreams. I also want them to learn how to challenge themselves and seek opportunities that may seem impossible at first, but show them that it is doable if the right effort is put in.

I enjoy running on the weekends to clear my head and plan on running my first marathon this year! I also like to hang out with my family and friends on the weekends whenever I can get away from studying. After exams, my favorite thing to do is lay in bed eating cookies and cream ice cream and watch a good movie!
