Amanda Chau

Hello, my name is Amanda Chau and I am a sophomore studying Mechanical Engineering! I graduated in the class of 2023 at the Academy of the Holy Names in Tampa, Florida. So far, my favorite class has been Differential Equations or Intro to Programming with C because I love the process of problem solving and the feeling after finding a solution through trial and error. As a kid, I really liked taking things apart and seeing how they worked, building LEGOs, and watching gears turn. So, when it came to school, I loved doing experiments and hands-on labs to be able to learn concepts. This led me to want to get involved with the STEM Ambassador program and wanting to inspire future generations in something I’m passionate about in a fun and engaging way. Aside from school, I enjoy going out with friends, listening to music, and being outside. I’ve found that these things make me happy when times get stressful. I love going on hikes or going out kayaking just taking in the sun and nature or settling down and chilling with some music. My advice for future STEM students is to be confident with yourself. There have been times where I have felt there are a million and one things going on and it starts to drain my self esteem and raises stress levels. I’ve felt that there are people better in my major or that they are doing so much more, and maybe they are, but it felt like they would be so much more successful. But remember that you get to create your own story, hold yourself up in confidence and know that everything you accomplish is important. Live your life to chase your own dreams and make yourself happy.
