About The Center for Initiatives in STEM (iSTEM)
iSTEM was originally created with a core mission to promote and enhance College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) and College of Sciences (COS) collaborative efforts on STEM education and educational research. Incorporating the Colleges of Medicine (COM), Optics and Photonics (COP) and Community Innovation and Education (CCIE) into the collaboration, iSTEM has expanded its mission to further serve the university, by including both STEM and non-STEM units with an interest in STEM-related education, and the greater educational community in regards to STEM initiatives.
iSTEM has three areas of emphasis within STEM: Undergraduate student success, K-12 outreach and Faculty Collaboration. Events coordinated through iSTEM include:
- K-12 STEM outreach programs: STEM Day, SECME Regional Competition, FEEC, Camp Connect, Summer Institute.
- Undergraduate student success: EXCEL, COMPASS, GEMS, WISE Mentoring @ UCF
- Faculty collaboration: iSTEM Faculty Fellows, iSTEM Affiliates, Grant educational activity and collaboration support
