Description

The mission of the Women in STEM (WiSTEM) mentoring program is to welcome students to the University of Central Florida in their first semester and help them be successful in their new college environment. To accomplish this mission, WiSTEM offers the following benefits to WiSTEM participants:

  • A designated WiSTEM mentor who is an older STEM student from a similar discipline as the WiSTEM mentee. The WiSTEM mentor interacts with their mentees frequently face-to-face and through other means. The mentor offers the necessary support that a mentee might need to guarantee a smooth transition from high school to college in their first semester at UCF.
  • Mentorship events organized throughout the academic year to introduce WiSTEM participants to role models from STEM disciplines and the opportunity to interact with them on a one-to-one basis.
  • Social activities that help solidify the bonds amongst the mentors, mentees, and WiSTEM staff and other STEM students, bonds that are critical for a student’s success in their first year in college.
