Mary Elizabeth Harden

Hi! My name is Mary Elizabeth Harden, and I am a second year Aerospace Engineering major with a minor in Engineering Leadership. I graduated from Bishop Kenny High School in Jacksonville, FL. My favorite classes at UCF have been my Engineering Leadership classes taught by Professor Dennis Filler because they have helped me understand how leadership applies to engineering and everyday life. My favorite professor has been Dr. Brueckner, who taught my Physics 2 class.
I am studying aerospace engineering today because when I was a kid, I had a teacher who was passionate about STEM and introduced me to engineering. They helped me see myself in STEM and showed me the many possibilities available to me. Through the STEM Ambassador program, I hope to provide that same encouragement, help younger students discover their interests, and show them the opportunities STEM can offer. I also hope to spark that same excitement and curiosity in other students that inspired me when I was younger. My advice to anyone thinking about pursuing STEM is that you really can do it!
Outside of school, I enjoy playing pickup soccer at the UCF outdoor fields and side-questing with my roommate. I am also involved in a couple of clubs on campus, I work as an indoor soccer referee and coach kids ages 2–5 part-time, and I am a UCF GEMS mentor to incoming aerospace majors! Go Knights!
