MyKayla Slaughter
Hi! My name is MyKayla Slaughter, and I’m a junior Biology major on the pre-health track. I grew up in Ohio before moving to Tampa, where I graduated from Bloomingdale High School. I discovered my passion for science when I began to see how much it explains things we experience in our everyday lives.
I joined the STEM Ambassador program because, when I was younger, I found STEM subjects intimidating and too difficult to enjoy. Over time, I learned that science is more than just memorizing facts and formulas. It’s a way of thinking that helps us solve problems and see the world as more connected and meaningful. As an ambassador, I hope to help students discover that same perspective and show that STEM is for everyone, no matter where they start.
My advice to future STEM students is to keep an open mind and explore opportunities that are outside of your comfort zone. You never know what might spark a passion that could change your path. Outside of class, I enjoy going to the movies and exploring local nature trails, which are my favorite way to relax and reset between busy weeks.
