Ian Thorn
My name is Ian Thorn and I am a sophomore Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Central Florida. Before UCF, I lived in Tampa, Florida and graduated from Joe. E. Newsome High school. So far, my favorite class has been Calculus 2. I would say it was my favorite because the professor Jingxi Lao was an engaging and funny professor, and I had many friends in the class which made me more enticed to show up.
Initially, I became interested in the STEM ambassador program because I wanted to continue to encourage and assist younger children in STEM. Programs such as the Mathnasium Math night back at my elementary school really inspired me to help younger students to consider STEM fields in their futures. If I could give some words of wisdom to future STEM students, I would say to attempt to find the work/life balance that works for you. I have found that to be an integral part of my success so far. Some things I like doing in my free time are working out, playing basketball, thrifting, and exploring new restaurants around the Orlando area.
