Sime Uppal

Hello, my name is Sime Uppal. I’m a fourth-year student at the University of Central Florida studying biomedical sciences. I graduated from Davie FL and attended Mcfatter Technical College for my high school. My favorite class so far must be cancer biology, which I am taking this semester, as well as my LEADS courses, especially the one that I took this summer where we travelled to South Africa and explored and created a better community in South Africa for the underprivileged. The reason I enjoyed my LEAD classes is because it allows me to explore and go beyond what a traditional scope of a college class provides as well as gives me the opportunity to enrich myself with different cultures such as the South Africa experience. Not only did we go to South Africa, but we also went to Europe and explored Europe as well; something that I can say I have not done in my life before until this summer. I must say cancer biology has to be one of my favorite courses. Not only is my professor amazing, but it’s also a very interesting course that provides me with better understanding to the structure of cancer itself and the topic is just fascinating in general. I decided to become a STEM ambassador because I enjoy not only being a premedical student, but I also enjoy computers and engineering as well. I feel like STEM has to do with a much broader perspective of science, not just one specific topic, but a multitude of different careers combined into one such as medicine, engineering, research. I do feel that stem has a lot to provide, and I feel like being a STEM ambassador is extremely important to help grow the community of STEM and help people understand that many of these careers that we join all intertwined with one another because they all exhibit science and help create a unity with one another. On top of this, it helps future perspective students understand what STEM is and helps to pick a career that they might finding interesting in STEM. If you’re looking to be a stem major or student in the future, don’t stop if things seem hard. Continue with the path that you’re on and find new ways to get around obstacle’s. Life will give you problems and it might seem like the end of the world, but it’s not, you have a path every direction you turn. Outside of school you can find me playing basketball at the court or even cracking open a Lego set. My favorite hobby is to collect Legos, specifically Lego Ninjago sets. On top of that, who doesn’t like a good movie or TV show, I really like the TV show on Netflix right now called fire country. If I’m not doing something fun, you can find me at the hospital working as a trauma nurse, so I may improve my skill set before I become a doctor in the future. When it comes to social interactions, my friends and I love to try different foods as well as go kart racing at K1 speed. These are just some little things about me, but STEM has really brought me to understand that I do love a career in science, and it is part of a STEM ambassador’s job just show future students why STEM is an amazing path to choose. I look forward this year to being a STEM ambassador and providing students outside of the UCF setting with a better understanding of STEM and creating new bonds and connections with others.
