Niani Toney

Hello! My name is Niani Toney, I am a third-year Mechanical Engineering Student with a minor in Biomedical Engineering. I graduated class of 2019 from Fort Pierce Central High School in Fort Pierce, Florida.

I decided to get involved with the STEM Ambassador program because I understand the importance of having a positive STEM role model. I understand how important it can be to see someone who looks like you, or comes from the same background as you be involved in STEM and how that can open the mind to new possibilities! Ultimately, I would love to be able to be that positive role model and impart some of the knowledge I have gained onto the future of STEM.

My favorite class would have to be the very first engineering class that I ever took which was Intro to Engineering. I remember how excited I was to work on those very first projects. My entire experience in that course and with those projects helped to solidify and assure me of my place in the field of engineering.

Outside of school and when I am not working,  I enjoy reading books and I hope to write one someday. I take occasional dance and martial arts classes. I follow professional track and field as well as artistic gymnastics. I love to cook, I love to write, I am a Sci-Fi and fantasy nerd and I enjoy watching and going to the movies.

Finally, a few words of wisdom I could give to any future STEM students or any student for that matter would be first, do not compare yourself or your journey to anyone else’s. Nobody really knows what is going on and we are all figuring it out as we go. I would also say that the first time you fail will hurt the most, but after will be the most you grow. Lastly, I would say, do not be afraid to make mistakes, have faith in yourself, and most importantly TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!
